A Unified Analysis of Rational Voting with Private Values and Cost Uncertainty∗

چکیده
We provide a unified analysis of the canonical rational voting model with privately known political preferences and costs of voting. Focusing on type-symmetric equilibrium, we show that for small electorates, members of the minority group vote with a strictly higher probability than do those in the majority, but the majority is strictly more likely to win the election. As the electorate size grows without bound, equilibrium outcome is completely determined by the individuals possessing the lowest cost of voting in each political group. We relate our equilibrium characterization to Myerson’s Poisson games, and examine the rate of convergence as well as the potential uniqueness of equilibrium. JEL Classifications: C72, D72, D82.

متن کاملDynamic Relationship between Inflation Uncertainty and Private Investment in Iran: An Application of VAR-GARCH-M Model
This paper empirically investigates the relationship between CPI inflation uncertainty, and private investment in the Iranian economy from 1988 to 2010 by using quarterly data. We employ a bivariate VAR(5)-GARCH(1,1)-in-mean with diagonal BEKK model to discover in a unified framework how are the interactions between the variables. In the model, conditional variance of inflation and private inve...

This commentary expands on two of the key themes briefly raised in the paper involving analysis of the evidence about key contextual influences on decisions of value. The first theme focuses on the need to explore in more detail what is called backstage decision-making looking at how actual decisions are made drawing on evidence from ethnographies about decision-making. These studies point to l...
متن کاملThe study of the effective factors on investment in private sector in Iran “With emphasis on uncertainty”
Making capital and investment is the main driving forces of economic development. Based on the investment sensitivity to the changes of some of macro-economic variables and risk and uncertainty, the present study evaluated the effective factors on investment in private sector in Iran during 1980-2007. At first, the uncertainty variables of real informal exchange rate, nominal interest rate and ...

Although significant private investment is absorbed in different sectors of power systems, transmission sector is still suffering from appropriate private investment. This is because of the pricing policies of transmission services, tariffs, and especially for investment risks. Investment risks are due to the uncertain behaviour of power systems that discourage investors to invest in the transm...
